Applications Open for New Wasatch County Senior Property Tax Abatement

Wasatch County is now accepting applications for a newly expanded property tax relief program designed to lower the property tax burden for senior homeowners earning less than $63,934 annually.

In January of this year, the Wasatch County Council passed a resolution to increase the income limit for low-income tax abatements by 50% from the State of Utah’s current limit of $42,642 for the 2025 tax year through a new program called the Wasatch County Senior Property Tax Abatement.

This new abatement is a supplement to the state’s existing Circuit Breaker program and expands the income limit to $63,934, allowing more residents over the age of 66 to qualify.

“We recognize that the cost of living continues to rise in Utah,” said Wasatch County Council Member Luke Searle. “By increasing the income limit for senior tax abatement programs, we hope to ease some of the financial pressure on more seniors in Wasatch County.”

The new county abatement will be applied as a credit on eligible 2025 property taxes in the following amounts:

2025 Income Range

Credit Amount

$42,624 – $47,000

$1,000

$47,001 – $53,000

$750

$53,001 – $59,000

$600

$59,001 – $63,934

$500

Wasatch County senior property owners earning less than $42,624 should apply for the State of Utah’s Circuit Breaker program.

“This is not just a Wasatch County issue,” Searle said. “We continue to urge state legislators to take action, but in the meantime, we are focusing on what we can do right now to help those in our community who need it most.”
